Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Social Influence

Cities around the globe are challenged by the most fundamental issues of our times: basic health concerns, environmental impact, political segregation, social justice and terrorism. The Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Social Influence program shapes tomorrow’s communication professionals who want to effect positive social change in those areas.

Communication and Social Influence provides courses in each of the areas above and focuses on conducting persuasion-based public communication in cities. The major includes a combination of humanistic and social-scientific approaches to being effective public communicators.

The program’s civic engagement area focuses on communication of sociopolitical activities and community advocacy. The risk area deals with communication about environment, health, science and security. The conflict area covers communication for community and individual conflict management and resolution. Diversity, another core aspect of urban environments, is also infused in each area of study, and intercultural communication is a hallmark of the department.
