Biography

My teaching philosophy, while epistemologically oriented, is based in the pragmatist’s belief in experience (praxis and knowledge) as one of the primary shapers of human existence. Consequently, I treat students not only as thinking beings, but as humans influenced by a cultural milieu that shapes their values, beliefs, and attitudes. This philosophy, combined with my belief that the best relationship between the known and the knower is transactional and dialogic, means that my classroom style is interactive, respectful, rigorous, grounded, flexible, and always has an “end in view.”
