Peter Jaroff has been an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Media Studies and Production since 2010. He came to Temple as an Adjunct Professor in 2007 after more than 30 years in television and radio news production.
His broadcast career included including 25 years as a producer for Action News at 6ABC in Philadelphia, where he helped cover stories including the MOVE fire, Nelson Mandela’s release from jail in South Africa, the 2000 Democratic National Convention, the Supreme Court arguments over the disputed 2000 presidential election and Phillies Spring Training. From 2007-2010, Prof. Jaroff was “at the editor’s desk” as a news editor for KYW NewsRadio 1060 in Philadelphia.
Prof. Jaroff is the Executive Producer and faculty supervisor for Temple Update, Temple’s weekly live news broadcast, as well as the daily news briefs, Update Now and Update Ahora, the Spanish-language news broadcast Lo Último and templeupdate.com. Temple Update has provided live coverage on TUTV of the 2012 and 2016 presidential elections, the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia and the Papal Visit to Philadelphia in 2015.
Students working for Temple Update have been honored with several prestigious national and regional awards, including the NATAS Mid-Atlantic “Emmy” Award for best College Production: Newscast (2011, 2016 and 2018), the Broadcast Education Association first-place award for college television newscast (2018), and first-place awards for Best Student Media Website and Best Promo from College Broadcasters, Inc. (2017).
