Applying for the Steve Charles Scholarship

Open to incoming Klein College freshmen in any major who graduated from a high school in an urban school district and have financial need (with a strong preference for students who have a demonstrated interest in business, entrepreneurship, technology and urban media). Award amount varies. 3.0 GPA recommended. The scholarship is renewable over 4 years pending eligibility requirements are met.

Personal Statement

Briefly discuss your educational and professional goals, emphasizing a demonstrated interest in business and/or entrepreneurship. Your statement should include:

  • Academic and entrepreneurial achievements, particularly related to technology and/or urban media.
  • Any financial barriers you may face in reaching your goals.
  • Any other information you would like the committee to know about you.

Your essay should be about 1-2 pages in length.

Résumé

Please upload your résumé which details the following information:

  • Extracurricular or volunteer activities .
  • Internship and/or paid employment experiences.
  • Honors, awards, or scholarships.
  • Publications, exhibitions, and performances.

Letter of Recommendation

One recommendation letter is required. The letter may come from a teacher, guidance counselor, coach or other person familiar with the applicant's academic and extracurricular background. The recommendation used for admission to Temple University may also be used for this application.
Students should ask recommenders to comment on their qualifications, including academic ability and their demonstrated interest in business, entrepreneurship, technology and/or urban media.

As soon as you submit this application, the recommender will receive an email notification with basic instructions for submitting the letter of recommendation. Students should discuss their plans for scholarship applications with whomever they choose as recommender prior to submitting this application. Students should also confirm that the recommender has received the email notification with the link to submit the letter of recommendation as it's common for the notification to get caught in a spam or junk mail folder.
