Summer of 2019 – South Africa
Participants will split their four weeks in South Africa between two urban centers: Johannesburg and Cape Town. During the first two weeks, students focus on Johannesburg, the largest urban area within the country. Home to 14 million people, Johannesburg is the financial hub of South Africa and most of the continent of Africa. Students use the city as a platform focusing on the townships, social entrepreneurship and apartheid’s legacy on the country.
After moving on to Cape Town, student can hike Table Mountain, using the vantage point to take in the gorgeous landscape of the city and the ocean. They will experience a variety of communities such as the urban farming in the city and learn about the cultural melting pot of the area.
