Study media, ecology and technology in the unique and spectacular landscapes of Arizona
Human culture has long been filled with narratives about ecology and technology, from the Garden of Eden to Metropolis to Avatar, from paradise to wilderness to techno-utopias. Metropolises and media culture dominate our civilization as visions of ecology and technology proliferate around the world, especially through films, TV shows, and advertising. These narratives reflect and are shaped by corporate agendas, consumer society, national policies, environmental risk, community activism, pollution and climate change. This complexity of narratives and agendas collectively shape how we envision ecology, technology, and 21st century civilization. Through onsite class lectures, film screenings, guest speakers, hikes and site visits, students will expand upon their knowledge of environmental issues and the importance of sustainability.
