Communities & Organizations in NYC: Student Life
Housing and Accommodations
As the Communities and Organizations program meets solely on Saturdays in the summer, students are responsible for arranging and financing their own housing for the duration of the program. Because of its proximity to Philadelphia, many students opt to commute from the Philadelphia-area or their permanent residence to class in NYC. Students who choose to pursue a part-time internship in NYC during the week are responsible for arranging their own accommodations. Global Opportunities staff can connect interested students with past participants who can be consulted on arrangements made in previous years.
Students interested in the Global Internship Program in NYC should consult the Global Internship Program section of this site for information on housing, accommodations, field trips, and transportation.
Field Trips and Transportation
Students are responsible for transportation costs associated with commuting to/from New York City for the course. Students commuting from Philadelphia often utilize Bolt or MegaBus to travel to New York throughout the duration of the program. During the on-site orientation, students will be provided with a MetroCard to assist with the costs of traveling throughout NYC. Global Opportunities staff can connect interested students with past participants who can be consulted on arrangements made in previous years.
Throughout the Communities & Organizations in NYC program, students will be able to explore New York City through several different field trips led by the faculty program leader, introducing them to the city and culture that surrounds them. Past trips have included:
- Central Park
- Brooklyn Bridge
- Museum of the City of New York
- Brooklyn Art Museum
- The New York Public Library
- Grand Central Terminal
- The Stonewall Inn
