October was a busy yet exciting month for Klein Global Opportunities (GO), which hosted two opportunities for students to enhance their skills and professionally develop in Philadelphia. October’s trips were to the Comcast Center Campus and WHYY, two media and communication employers eager to meet students from Klein College of Media and Communication and Temple University.
Klein on the GO students headed downtown to the Comcast Center, also known as the Comcast Tower, Philadelphia’s most prominent skyscraper. The trip was organized by Assistant Professor of Instruction Steve Ryan. From the financial communication team to the head of internal communication, Comcast highlighted what they do as a company, as corporate communication professionals and how students can enter the industry.
“Hearing from real-world corporate professionals was super motivating,” said junior public relations student Nate Weinberg. “They were excited to answer our questions and made the prospect of working post-graduation less scary.”
It wrapped up with the Universal Sphere, a dome theater inside the Comcast Technology Center. In collaboration with Steven Spielberg, DreamWorks Animation, Universal Destinations and Experiences, and Comcast Labs, the Sphere presents “The Power of I”, an experience that inspires the curation of ideas. This was the perfect way to end a day of career exploration, networking and inspiration to be change-makers in their field.
October’s second Klein on the GO trip was to WHYY– the leading public media organization in the Philadelphia region. The group, led by Assistant Professor of Practice Saleem Ahmed, watched live tapings of programs and had hands-on practice with production equipment. As a bonus, they got to explore an active production studio.
First-year journalism student Tay Ludwig remarked, “As a journalism student, I did not know what to expect from WHYY, but my expectations were definitely exceeded… as a Philadelphia native, I love learning about job opportunities in my own city–Philly as has much to offer for media and communication students.”
