The Center for Community-Engaged Media, established in 2024, supports journalism, media, and civic information systems that center communities and encourage dialogue, and care.
The center's initiatives include engaged research, collaborative projects and educational and training offerings that serve the information needs of communities and develop the connecting and convening potential of journalism.
The center builds on Klein faculty members’ efforts to develop community journalism that tells stories not only about but also for and with communities—including through outlets such as the Germantown Info Hub and Kensington Voice (now independent outlets). It also works to support the development of community-led initiatives such as the Philly-Afghan Info Hub and DayOneNotDayTwo’s Community AF project.
The center will continue to collaborate with community and media stakeholders on research and project development, and to share lessons learned through a range of public forums.
