Alicia (Xiaoyue) Liu’s research focuses on strategic and crisis communication in AI-related crises. She examines how people assign responsibility when AI systems cause harm, how they express their reactions online, and how organizations’ responses shape public trust. A related area of her work explores the psychological mechanisms of human–AI interaction, particularly how people perceive and use chatbots for mental health support.
Before beginning her doctoral studies, Alicia conducted research on AI and crisis communication and taught Public Speaking at North Carolina State University. She previously worked in digital marketing for the South American market and in a software company in Beijing. Alicia holds a master’s degree in Communication from North Carolina State University.
