Klein Friday Production Foundations Workshops

Get the access you need—starting on Friday

Klein Production Foundations Workshops help students prepare to use college equipment and production spaces safely and successfully. Workshops take place on Fridays, with several sessions offered throughout the day.

Beginning Fall 2026, all Klein students who plan to reserve or borrow equipment from the Klein Equipment Room in AH 101 must complete one Equipment Checkout Workshop and pass a short quiz before accessing gear. This requirement applies to all student borrowers, including prior borrowers.

Both Equipment Checkout paths cover policies and procedures, media safety, available equipment, file management, post-production basics and Mac OS fundamentals. They do not replace equipment operation instruction provided in Klein courses.

Students who pass the quiz receive the appropriate WebCheckout access for one year. Students who do not pass may retake the quiz.

Before checking out or using production equipment, students must complete the workshop required for that equipment or production environment. Depending on the work you plan to do, you may need to register for one, multiple or all three workshops. Review the options below to determine which training applies to you.

Borrowing Equipment Room gear for field work? Choose the Field Production Equipment Checkout Workshop. This path is intended for field reporting, journalism, Temple Update or OwlSports-style production, and related field-based projects. Register now.

This path is intended for studio projects, advertising, short films, social media content, audio projects and related narrative or commercial productions. Register now.

Participating in a TUTV student production? Choose the TUTV Studio Operations Bootcamp. The workshop is required before students take on studio-equipment responsibilities. Permission from the relevant TUTV instructor is required. Register now.

    Equipment Checkout Workshops

    Select session from the Friday calendar and complete the online registration. You will receive a confirmation with the session time, location and attendance instructions.

    Frequently asked questions

    • Do I need to complete every workshop? No. Complete the workshop that matches the access you need. Most students borrowing Equipment Room gear should choose either Field Production or Narrative and Commercial Production. Students participating in TUTV productions should follow their instructor’s guidance.
    • I have borrowed equipment before. Do I still need a workshop? Yes. The Fall 2026 Equipment Checkout requirement applies to all student borrowers, including students who previously had access.
    • Will the workshop teach equipment operation? No. Equipment Checkout Workshops focus on policies, safety, equipment care, available gear, file management and workflows. Equipment operation is taught in Klein courses.
    • When will I receive WebCheckout access? After you attend the full Equipment Checkout Workshop and pass the quiz, you will receive the appropriate WebCheckout access for one year. Students who do not pass may retake the quiz.
    • What if my preferred session is full? Choose another Friday or session time. Join the waitlist if one is available and register before you need gear for an assignment or production.

    Equipment Checkout sessions are limited to 20 students. Register early, particularly if you will need gear during the first weeks of the semester. If you can no longer attend, cancel your registration so another student can use the seat.
