Biography

Margarita is interested in feminist media studies, specifically the role popular culture plays in establishing social attitudes about gender roles, beauty standards, sexual expression, and feminism. She is particularly interested in postfeminist media culture, and her research interrogates the commodification of empowerment across media forms, from women’s magazines to social media to television and film.

Margarita graduated magna cum laude from Fordham University Honors College with a BA in Communication and Media Studies in 2018 and earned her MA in Women’s and Gender Studies from the City University of New York Graduate Center in 2021.

Prior to her PhD studies, Margarita worked with high school and middle school students, coaching debate teams and helping students to improve their reading and writing skills.
