Biography

Mira’s research interests meet at the intersection of gender, media, and sound studies. Mira’s research explores postfeminist gender discourses and gender dialogues on social media, especially on TikTok. She focuses on how gender representations on social media are shaped but also limited by platform affordances through the utilization of sound, such as music and audio memes, in the platforms’ neoliberal attention economy. Mira examines how audio defines and participates in the constructions of gender and race and serves as a central means of gaining visibility in the attention economy.

Mira earned a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies: Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Concentration from The Graduate Center, CUNY, New York, NY and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology from Huner College, CUNY, New York, NY.
