Biography
A second year doctoral student at Klein College, Sezgi Başak Kavaklı completed her BA in English Literature and MA in Critical and Cultural Studies at Boğaziçi University, Turkey. Her research broadly investigates the sociolinguistic determinants of empathy and altruistic behavior including the study of discourse and emerging media technologies such as virtual reality. Specifically, Başak has conducted intensive research on media representation of refugees in Turkey, and seeks to investigate media effects on the relationship between the civilians of Host countries and refugees globally.
