Biography
Simu Dey is a recent graduate of the master’s in communication program at Western Illinois University. She completed her thesis on using tailored social media messages to provide mental health support. This Fall of 2022, she started her PhD in media and communication at Temple University. Her doctoral research focuses on using various social media platform communication tools as channels for providing mental health support to different at-risk populations. Her broader research interest lies in helping at-risk populations make informed decisions by investigating communication strategies for effectively disseminating mental health support resources via social media. An Assistant Professor of Mass Communication at Comilla University, she taught Introduction to Communication, News Gathering and Writing, Language Writing Skills for Media, Basics of Editing, Basics of Reporting, Contemporary Bangladesh Affairs, Contemporary World Affairs, Depth Reporting and Sports Journalism. She contributed to eight articles during her teaching career. She was formerly a journalist reporting for The Daily Samakal. In the tenure of The Daily Samakal, she reported on the cricket-T20 World Cup 2014 by traveling to several home cities. Besides, she investigated not only the crime, business, and education news for Bangladesh's highest circulated daily newspaper but also reported exposés on government and corporate corruption that led to disciplinary actions. Simu Dey holds an MSS (summa cum laude) in communication and journalism and BSS (magna cum laude) in communication and journalism from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. She was awarded the best student in 2007 for her academic results at the University of Chittagong.
