Biography
Simu Dey is a Ph.D. student in media and communication at Klein College of Media and Communication at Temple University. Her research interests broadly include (tele) presence health, culture, and social media, specifically focused on mental health. She is dedicated to exploring the potential of various communication tools on social media platforms as channels for providing mental health support to diverse at-risk populations. Her overarching research interest centers around empowering at-risk populations to make informed decisions. This research involves thoroughly investigating communication strategies to disseminate mental health support resources effectively through social media platforms.
Before pursuing her Ph.D., Simu was an Assistant Mass Communication Professor at Comilla University. In this role, she imparted knowledge in courses such as Introduction to Communication, News Gathering and Writing, Language Writing Skills for Media, Basics of Editing, Basics of Reporting, Contemporary Bangladesh Affairs, Contemporary World Affairs, Depth Reporting, and Sports Journalism.
Simu Dey's professional journey began as a journalist for The Daily Samakal. She reported extensively on the cricket-T20 World Cup 2014, covering matches during her tenure. Beyond sports journalism, she investigated crime, business, education, and cultural news for Bangladesh's highest-circulated daily newspaper. Her dedication to journalistic integrity led her to report exposés on government and corporate corruption, resulting in consequential disciplinary actions.
