Biography

Yelena Dzhanova is a student in Temple University’s Media and Communication PhD program. She is a mixed methods researcher who studies gender and identity across journalism practice, history, and ethics, as well as gendered news coverage. Yelena has a master’s degree in gender studies from the CUNY Graduate Center, as well as a bachelor’s degree in English, political science, and journalism from CUNY Baruch College.

She has published research exploring the pedagogical value of combining journalistic practice with social science courses, with the goal of teaching the next generation of journalists to write accurately and ethically about the LGBT community.

Outside of Temple, Yelena is an experienced news and editorial strategist and a journalism professor at Pace University. She is also a competitive pool player.
