The Philadelphia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) held its 49th annual Pepperpot and Achievement Awards event on November 14 at the Down Town Club in Philadelphia.
The awards recognize the best in class public relations tactics and professionals from across the Philadelphia region. This year, Klein College was heavily featured in the winner’s circle.
Khalil Bullock, a strategic communication student, received the award for "Best Advertorial" during his work at Bellevue Communications Group. His piece, also published in the Philadelphia Public Record, focused on the $300 million investment Governor Tom Wolf contributed to Holt Logistics and the expansion of the Port of Philadelphia, specifically the Packer Marine Terminal sector.
"It was such an honor to intern at Bellevue Communications Group and secure coverage for one of their clients in the process," said Bullock."In addition, I never believed I'd be receiving my first public relations award on its behalf."
Meredith Avakian, adjunct professor at Klein College and director of communications and marketing for the Philadelphia Bar Association, won the DeAnn White Award for Excellence in Community Service.
Clarissa Ford, a senior strategic communication student and firm director of PRowl Public Relations, won the inaugural Jerry Klein Professional Promise Award.
"Mr. Klein's generosity and mentorship are extremely valuable, and I'm humbled to be recognized as the first recipient of this award,” Ford stated.
PRSA National judged nearly 100 entries in more than 25 campaigns and tactic categories ranging from brand management and social media to community relations and fundraising.
These winners shed light on talents and accomplishments from current students and alumni on a national level.
