The first week of college can be challenging for anyone. New classrooms, new people and a new curriculum are challenges and can set the tone for the rest of the year.
Here are some tips and tricks to make your first week a success!
Be open to trying new things
Go to as many welcome events as you can! Clubs and organizations are just as excited to learn more about you and your interests. Events are great for meeting new people and getting exclusive treats and merchandise. Klein College of Media and Communication highlights weekly events, workshops, and more in the collegewide newsletter, The Latest, on Klein.temple.edu/events, and social media.
Explore healthy environments
Temple University offers various ways to get active, including intramural sports teams, group fitness and workout classes, and open swimming sessions in the pool at Pearson Hall. These activities are open to all levels, whether beginners or seasoned athletes and provide ways to get out of a routine and enhance your educational experience through physical activity.
Take care of your mental health
It is essential to take time for yourself and prioritize your mental well-being. Temple offers an array of emotional and mental resources, such as Tuttleman Counseling Services and the Wellness Resource Center, to help you stay balanced and healthy.
Temple Student Body President Ray Epstein believes it may be pretty easy to say “yes” to everything but to know Temple will also offer more than enough chances to explore and try new things in the future.
"You might feel like you have to say 'yes' to everything during [Weeks of Welcome], which is understandable, but remember, if you miss one outing to Center City or event, more opportunities will come because that is the Temple promise: limitless opportunity,” the English and communication and social influence double major stated. “Make sure to rest and care for yourself while exploring areas of interest and branching out. Balance is key during this transition."
Although everyone's experience in the first week differs, these tips should help ease into this hectic period. Best of luck to all Owls, whether it is your first year or last!
