Klein College of Media and Communication at Temple University’s Department of Advertising and Public Relations (ADPR) presents a newly rebranded intern blog, ADPR Field Notes, a destination for student experience and a resource for upcoming interns.
ADPR Field Notes is a place where advertising and public relations students write about their internships and experiences that add depth and layers to their education in the classroom.
“The blog will help bring student experiences to life, offering insight into the opportunities, challenges and successes for students in the ADPR department who are doing internships for credit,” said Jennifer Freeman, associate professor of instruction who oversees student internships. “It’s a valuable resource for current and prospective students, and anyone interested in seeing how our interns apply their skills in real-world settings.”
Advertising and public relations students are required to complete at least one internship to graduate, with options to also work for PRowl or Diamond Edge Communications. The redesigned blog will connect students to more opportunities than ever, serving as an interactive resource for students to learn about internship resources, best practices and companies where Klein students and alumni work.
" We hope this blog will be a good reference for students at every stage of their academic journey, from understanding what an internship is, to exploring resources and learning from the experiences of their peers, to navigating the process of earning academic credit,” said Freeman.
Current interns are reflecting on their internship experiences this semester.
Faith Levin, a senior advertising major, spent her internship with integrated creative agency Allen & Gerritsen as a strategy intern. She networked her way into the opportunity by leveraging connections with her professor. Levin works on new business endeavors and edits video content.
“It is exciting working on new business because it’s very fast-paced,” she shared. “I see the ideas forming from the beginning when everyone’s brainstorming.”
Levin anticipates writing her personal blog post about her work with the agency, particularly how her editing work contributed to the agency’s new business pursuits.
Mike Morales Roblero, a senior advertising major with a minor in public relations, interns with Temple University Television (TUTV) as a social media coordinator, helping the university’s digital cable station with content creation and social media management.
Roblero’s coursework and interests in broadcasting and entertainment made him a natural fit for the role.
“In my blog post, I’m excited to write about my experience at TUTV and getting to adapt the lessons I’ve learned through my classes into my work each week,” he said. “I’m using those real experiences from my classes in my internship. It works so seamlessly.”
The Department will host a virtual event at noon on April 8 to celebrate the launch of the blog and offer internship resources and tips to students.
