Scholarships for Continuing Students

There are a variety of scholarships and awards available for students continuing beyond their first year of study at Klein College. The types of funds and their amounts vary from year to year, and not every scholarship below is offered each year. The Alan R. Yoffee Memorial Scholarship Fund is open to an undergraduate public relations major who is committed to volunteering either in the public relations field or in the community.  

The Aram Aghazarian Award is made each year in honor of Professor Aram Aghazarian to a student who has shown an exemplary level of leadership within Klein College through academic and extracurricular activities.  

The purpose of the Arlene Morgan Scholarship Fund is to provide annual awards for journalism students who demonstrate academic excellence and are graduates of Philadelphia high schools, with preference given to students who are first in their immediate family to study journalism at the collegiate level.  

The Barry I. Sankey Journalism Scholarship is open to a full-time, undergraduate journalism student.  

The purpose of the Betsy Leebron Tutleman Endowed Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarships to academically qualified students who demonstrated financial need enrolled in the Department of Media Studies and Production.  

The Brutus Turner Community Service Award is awarded annually to a rising sophomore, junior or senior who has shown a commitment to serving the Temple or North Philadelphia community through volunteer work.  

The purpose of the Carol Rosenheim Simon Award Endowed Fund is to provide awards to junior or senior journalism students whose academic and career interests fall within news, magazine, advertising, public relations, broadcast news or photojournalism.  

The Brenner Scholarship Fund is open to Klein College seniors in any major with a 3.5 GPA.  

The Coughlin Family Scholarship Fund is open to students majoring in journalism.  

The David and Florence Newman Scholarship Fund is awarded to students of high scholarly aptitude on the basis of financial need.  

The David E. Brace Scholarship in Community Journalism Fund provides an annual scholarship for a full time, undergraduate or graduate journalism major interested in local reporting and editing.  

The David L. Womack Memorial Scholarship Fund was created to commemorate the memory of Professor David L. Womack.  

The Delaware County Press Club Jack and Florence Steck Scholarship provides scholarships for students majoring in journalism or public relations. Eligible students must be residents of Delaware County.  

The Donald H. Fey Memorial Scholarship Fund provides awards to undergraduate or graduate students with financial need who are military veterans. 

The Dr. Jean Brodey Endowed Scholarship supports advertising and public relations students.  

The Ellie Slott Fisher Award Fund provides one award per year to a student studying print journalism who has financial need.  

The Farrar Advertising Fund was created to honor Temple University Professor Emeritus Fred Farrar by providing scholarships for students studying advertising.  

The Free Speech Advocacy Award provides an annual award to an undergraduate or graduate journalism student. Students who work at the Temple News or other on-campus media outlets, are active in student journalism organizations, complete an internship, are involved in the Department's work with Philadelphia schools, or produce content for Philadelphia Neighborhoods are eligible for this award.  

The George Martina Jennings Endowed Scholarship Fund is open to juniors with financial need in any Klein College major. A minimum 3.0 GPA is recommended.  

The Harry A. Lieberman Scholarship Fund provides one scholarship annually to a junior or senior who is interestef in sports production/broadcasting and is involved with OwlSports Update.  

The Health+Commerce PR Scholarship Fund is open to public relations students in good academic standing who are members of a population that is underrepresented in the public relations industry. Preference shall be given to students who are members of the university’s Black Public Relations Society.  

The Herman M. Ellis Scholarship Award and The Herman M. Ellis Award for Distinguished Teaching provide awards to journalism students.  

The Ida B. Wells Award provides an annual scholarship to a student with financial need who is majoring in journalism.  

The Jacqueline Steck Award Fund provides awards to journalism students with financial need and academic merit who are actively involved with The Temple News.  

The Janet and Lew Klein Student Media Scholarship Fund supports high-achieving rising seniors with financial need who are finishing preparations to launch their career.  

The Jankowski Family Strategic Communications Scholarship Fund provides an annual scholarship to an academically qualified junior or senior advertising or public relations major.  

The Jerry Klein Professional Promise Award provides one scholarship award each year to a rising junior or senior from the Greater Philadelphia area (with preference for southern NJ residents).  

The Jessica Savitch Broadcast Journalism Award is open to junior and senior media studies and production students with financial need.  

The Jim Gardner Journalism Prize provides an award to a senior student majoring in journalism who intends to go on to graduate work at Temple University or elsewhere to pursue a career in journalism.  

The John and Peggy Dotson Award Fund provides awards to academically talented junior or senior journalism majors with financial need, with preference given to graduates of a Philadelphia high school.  

The John H. MacDonald Endowed Scholarship Fund is open to out-of-state students preferably from Massachusetts, with financial need. A minimum 3.0 GPA is recommended.  

The Justin Shronk Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to media studies and production students who have financial need, with preference for students who have one parent who is deceased.  

The Legacy Award is given to a student who has produced journalism work that deals with race, race-relations, race-related issues, diversity and/or inclusion.  

The Lew Klein Scholarship is open to all Klein College sophomore, junior or senior students with a minimum 3.0 GPA who are registered for an independent study project, an internship program or a study away program offered by Temple University.  

The Margaret Conti Memorial Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for juniors and seniors majoring in advertising, with preference given to students with financial need.  

The Marilyn J. Phister Endowed Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarships for media studies and production students with financial need, who are pursuing an internship in video production or visual broadcast media.  

The Martha Menei Endowed Scholarship Fund is open to juniors majoring in Advertising and Film and Media Arts. A minimum 3.0 GPA and U.S. citizenship are required.  

The Marvin Pekovsky Scholarship in Advertising recognizes a top advertising student. Recipients will also be entitled to receive the Marvin Pekovsky Scholarship in Advertising for their senior year, provided they maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 during their junior year.  

The Mary Connelly Graff Award Fund provides an annual award to an academically qualified journalism major.  

The Matt McNamee Scholarship Fund is awarded to students with financial need who are working in broadcast media.  

The Maxine Edelson Elkin Memorial Scholarship Fund provides annual scholarship aid for academically talented students who are residents of Pennsylvania studying journalism. 

The Media and Communication Scholarship Fund is open to all Klein College students with a minimum 3.0 GPA.  

The Michael Buser Endowed Scholarship Fund is open to any Klein College student with financial need and a minimum 3.0 GPA.  

The Mookie Miller Fund for Adventure in Education provides financial support to students with financial need who want to study abroad.  

The Myles Martel Scholarship Fund provides two annual awards to students who have financial need and  demonstrate academic achievement and on-campus leadership.  

The Paul M. Gottlieb Memorial Prize provides an award to the student of the graduating class selected by the faculty as having the highest scholastic standing for the senior year.  

The Peter J. Shellem Memorial Journalism Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for journalism majors who transferred to Temple University from a community college.  

The Philadelphia Club of Advertising Women Scholarship is open to juniors regardless of gender who are majoring in Advertising or Film and Media Arts. A minimum 3.0 GPA and U.S. citizenship are required. Students must apply in the fall semester of their junior year.  

The Phyllis Delores Brodie Journalism Award supports a journalism student who has written an article about communities affected by public policy.  

The Ralph Vigoda Memorial Award in Journalism Fund provides an annual award to an undergraduate or graduate journalism student who is interested in a career in print journalism.  

The Ray Didinger Journalism Scholarship provides financial support to journalism students with preference for students who participate in Temple News or WHIP.  

The Robert Shackleton Endowed Scholarship Fund is open to students with financial need and who have completed at least two years of undergraduate coursework. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and are majoring in Film and Media Arts, Theater, or Media Studies and Production. Preference is given to students interested in onscreen or public performance. 

The S. W. Calkins Endowed Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship to a journalism student with demonstrated financial need. Preference shall be given to students who are pursuing an internship at a local media organization.  

The Stephen A. Capus Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship for an undergraduate journalism student with financial need. Preference is given to students who are graduates of a high school in the Philadelphia, PA school district.  

The Stephen E. Eisenthal Scholarship Memorial Fund provides an award to an eligible junior or senior student in the Department of Media Studies and Production who is seeking a career in the technical area of broadcast production and is working to pay his or her tuition.  

The Suburban Public Relations Club Scholarship is given annually to an outstanding student majoring in public relations.  

The Ted Von Ziekursch Scholarship was created to commemorate the memory of former Philadelphia News editor, Theodore “Ted” Von Ziekursch.
