Funding Your Graduate Degree
As a graduate student, you may have some opportunities to help make your education more affordable. These opportunities not only offer funding but provide you with experience and credentials necessary for post graduation life.
Many of our doctoral students have the opportunity to work alongside our professors as teaching assistants, influencing and working with a diverse and dynamic population of students.
As a teaching assistant, you will obtain experience assisting in large and small classrooms as well as teaching courses in your own area of specialization.
Teaching assistants receive a stipend, health insurance and tuition remission. Teaching assistantships are assigned upon entering the program and offer four years of support.
A $500-per-year travel award is also available for students that participate in conferences through presentation of their research and creative projects.
Temple University also offers fellowships to support outstanding students in doctoral programs.
Fellowship recipients receive four years of funding. Two years are spent gaining experience as teaching assistants alongside our outstanding faculty. The remaining two years do not have service required as to provide students with the opportunity to focus on their research.
Presidential Fellowships are Temple’s most prestigious awards. They are awarded to our most outstanding incoming doctoral students.
Future Faculty Fellowships are awarded to outstanding domestic doctoral students who add diversity to our faculty. Candidates are newly admitted domestic doctoral students from underrepresented groups in the applicant's discipline who show exceptional leadership and/or have overcome significant obstacles in pursuing an academic career.
