Describe your current occupation and if applicable, how was Temple the launchpad for your current position?
As an Investment Management Analyst at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, I assist managing attorneys to oversee compliance processes for more than 40 mutual funds, ensuring adherence to the Securities Act of 1933 and the Investment Company Act of 1940. After working in multiple different areas of law, I find the proactive nature of Investment Management incredibly gratifying. I'm currently gearing up to take my legal career to the next level and plan to apply to law school either this fall or next.
You might be curious about my transition from being a journalism major at Klein College to being an employee in the legal field. It was a semester-long journalism project on the opioid epidemic in Kensington, Philadelphia, that sparked my interest in law. This experience highlighted my desire to pursue a career focused on advocacy and pro-bono work. While my passion for journalism remains strong, the skills I developed in my undergraduate classes—such as effective communication and helping others articulate their stories—have proven invaluable. Temple University, and Klein College in particular, offered exceptional resources and mentorship opportunities, connecting me with professionals who made a successful transition from journalism to law.
Why do you support Temple University and serve on the Klein Alumni Association Board?
I vividly recall a moment when a mentor, introduced to me through the Klein College Alumni Association Mentorship Program, offered me invaluable advice that altered the course of my life. I promised myself right at that moment that I would help others just as she had helped me, and I am eager to have an impact on the journey of current Klein students while remaining connected to the institution that has given me so much.
What excites you about the Lew Klein College of Media and Communication?
There are countless aspects of Lew Klein College of Media and Communication that excite me, but the faculty, led by Dean Boardman, are particularly impressive. The professors bring a wealth of real-world experience from the very industries and careers that students aspire to enter. Their extensive experience and dedication to their fields create an inspiring and enriching learning environment. I’m eternally grateful for the opportunity to learn from such exceptional professors and can’t wait to see what future Klein alumni do with the impressive education they have received!
What advice could you give someone looking to become more engaged with Klein College?
Take the leap and go for it! Have confidence in your own life experiences, education and the fact that you could help someone where you are and with what you have in this present moment. Klein Alumni hold unique perspectives and insight that could truly change the lives of current students.
What was your favorite memory while a student at Temple?
During my junior year of college, I was thrilled to be a part of the Klein College Alumni Association Mentorship Program and was paired with a fantastic mentor. Coincidentally enough, this mentorship program happened right around the time that I wanted to gain more familiarity with the legal field. After discussing my interests with my assigned mentor, she kindly connected me with her friend who is an attorney and works at Temple Law. These mentorships have blossomed into lasting friendships and, to this day, the three of us meet for dinner multiple times a year! I’m deeply grateful to not only my mentors for offering their time and wisdom but to Klein for recognizing the importance of mentorship.
