Biography

Anu Olagunju’s research focuses on new media and its relationship to society. She is interested in communication for social changes in organizational culture and structure. Her Master’s dissertation explored the audience inclusion in Facebook and Twitter reporting among young university students in South Africa. The study uses the nationwide #FeesMustFall campaign as a case in an attempt to probe the uses, and overall dynamics and discourses of digital protests and the relevance of audience inclusion in the mediation of news. The findings of this study have been presented and published in peer reviewed conferences and journals.

Anu graduated from the Durban University of Technology, South Africa with a Master of Journalism (cum laude) in 2021, and earned her BA in Linguistics and Communication from the University of Benin, Nigeria in 2007. She was a recipient of the National Research Foundation’s grant, and also inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society. Prior to her PhD journey, she taught subjects such as Social Responsibility and Sustainability, Interpersonal Communication & Self, and Media and Visual Literacy to undergraduate students in the Durban University of Technology. She was also a Writing Centre Tutor at the same university.
