Biography
Cleves Nkie Mongo is a first-year PhD student at Klein College of Media and Communication, Temple University. His academic interests focus on social theories of communication and journalism practices, with a particular emphasis on Sub-Saharan Africa. He is particularly interested in the intersection of solutions and constructive journalism, media cultivation theory, and the relationship between new information and communication technologies (NICTs) and democracy in Africa. Cleves holds a Master of Journalism from Klein College of Media and communication (Temple University), along with a Master of Arts in Anglophone Studies, a Master of Education in EFL, and a Bachelor of Arts in Anglophone Literatures and Civilizations from Université Marien Ngouabi, Brazzaville. A Fulbright alumnus and member of the International Exchange Alumni Network, he has extensive professional experience, having worked as a journalist at Radio Liberté in Congo-Brazzaville (2014–2017) and later as an independent journalist and assistant instructor of Anglophone Civilization at Université Marien Ngouabi. His notable publication, The Practice of Envelope Journalism in the Republic of the Congo, was featured in Newspaper Research Journal. Cleves has been honored with a few awards, including the Phyllis Delores Brodie Journalism Award, the Free Speech Advocacy Award, and the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship.
