Biography

Madhab Chandra Das is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication and Journalism at the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Currently on study leave, he is pursuing his PhD in Media and Communication at Temple University. His research now focuses on social influence, social identity, and behavior change in the context of politics, democracy, and public opinion. He is particularly interested in understanding how group identity, partisan polarization, and cognitive biases shape political attitudes and influence democratic participation in Bangladesh and beyond.

At this stage of his graduate career, Das is exploring how social identity theory, affective polarization, and motivated reasoning contribute to political discourse and public opinion formation. His work seeks to unpack how citizens engage with political information, form attitudes, and respond to misinformation in democratic societies, with an emphasis on developing nations. He aims to contribute to global conversations on democratic resilience, public trust, and political persuasion strategies by integrating both quantitative and qualitative methodologies in his research.

Since 2011, Das has been teaching various courses on media and communication. Alongside his role at the University of Chittagong, he has served as an adjunct faculty member at several private universities in Bangladesh. He is the author of "Gender O Media Vabna" (Essays on Gender and Media Studies), an academic book published in his native language, Bangla. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was honored as "Communication Professional of the Year-2020" by the Public Relations Council of India (PRCI).

With a strong commitment to mixed-methods research, Das aspires to develop innovative approaches to studying political communication, public opinion shifts, and democratic engagement in the digital age.
