When it comes to finding the perfect study spot on campus, there are many factors to consider: quiet versus collaborative spaces, proximity to resources, and what kind of environment helps you "lock-in.”
Whether you're looking for a calm corner to work solo, an ample group space to brainstorm with classmates, or a snug nook to sip coffee and read, Temple University offers study spots in various environments catering to different learning styles and needs.
Here’s a quick guide to some of the most common types of study spots you’ll find on Temple’s campus:
The Charles Library
The Charles Library, located at the heart of campus, is available for use 24 hours, seven days a week. With four floors, all with their own amenities, Charles is the go-to spot for all your study needs. Study rooms, located on the third and fourth, can be booked using the reservation website 72 hours in advance and run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. In addition, Stella’s Cafe is found in the 24-hour for any pick-me-ups needed.
The TECH Center
Similarly, the TECH Center has a wide variety of options for all your study needs. Computer access is guaranteed with over 500 Mac and PC workstations from desktops to borrowing a laptop for up to four hours. In the center, 13 breakout rooms can be booked online up to nine hours at a time.
Tuttleman Lounges
The Tuttleman Learning Center had four floors of seating and hidden spots. On the lower level, the area is equipped with a vending machine and a plethora of options for seating including high tops, chairs and comfy chairs. On the second level, enjoy the natural sunlight at the “Greenhouse,” located past the honors office. The small area includes a mix of seating arrangements for any needed comfort. Lastly, head up to the fourth floor to the Owl’s Nest Lounge. This hideaway spot comprises of computers, printers, booths and bean bag seating.
Coffee, Coffee, Coffee
If you are a coffee lover, Temple has more than enough locations for your caffeine needs. Recently, the campus has encountered two new locations in the area. Hank’s Cafe freshly opened its doors on the first floor of Ritter Annex. Their menu has sections from pastries, drinks or a hearty meal with a quiet place to get work done. Additionally, Lands of One Thousand Hills is located right outside of the Temple University Reginal Rail Station. This brand-new cafe features a selection of caffeinated and non-caffeinated beverages with several bakery items for purchase. This hidden location is the perfect escape from the chaos on campus.
As finals week approaches, strategically choosing your study environment can set you up for success and make finals season a little less stressful.
