TUTV Wins Two National CBI Awards
Temple University Television (TUTV) earned two first-place honors at the 2025 College Broadcasters, Inc. (CBI) National Student Media Awards, held this weekend in Denver, Colorado. With more than 1,000 entries nationwide, the competition showcased the best in student-produced media from colleges and universities across the country.
Best Sportscast: OwlSports Update – Built on Broad: 2,000 Wins and Counting
TUTV’s award-winning sports program, OwlSports Update, won first place for Best Sportscast for its spring special, Built on Broad: 2,000 Wins and Counting. The show celebrated Temple Athletics’ milestone victories through in-depth storytelling, student reporting and dynamic live production.
The winning team included:
Kylie Haberstroh (Show Producer), Natalie Koranda (Host), Brendan Donachie (Graphics Coordinator), Hayden Bandel, Michael Mirville, Paddy Heckard, Pat Dallahan, Sam Covone, and Sarah Winton (Reporters/Photographers), and Sheldon Harvey (Photographer/Editor).
Competing against major programs such as Montclair State, Ithaca College and Ohio University, the TUTV team demonstrated that Temple student journalists continue to produce work that stands among the best in the nation.
Best General Entertainment Program: Artist Among Us – The Art of Tattooing
TUTV also earned top honors for Best General Entertainment Program with Artist Among Us: The Art of Tattooing, an episode that explored Philadelphia’s vibrant tattoo culture through the eyes of local artists. The production team included producers Melanie Spiegel and Delia Joyce, assistant producer Jaime Holbeck, and faculty advisor Chelsea Scruggs. Competing against strong programs from Syracuse University and the University of Texas at Dallas, the team’s creative storytelling and technical excellence set their work apart.
Temple Faculty Representation at the CBI Conference
In addition to TUTV’s student victories, Matt Fine, associate professor of practice, headlined a one-hour professional development session titled “You Can Do the Job… Now It’s Time to Get the Job.” His presentation focused on interview techniques for aspiring media professionals and drew strong engagement from students and faculty from across the country.

The CBI Awards recognize outstanding work in student television, radio and digital media. These wins continue TUTV’s tradition of excellence and highlight the strength of Temple’s Klein College of Media and Communication, where students gain real-world experience producing professional-quality content for broadcast and streaming audiences.
