Temple University welcomed home one of its most accomplished alumni as Tim Terry, CLA ’97, vice president of player personnel for the Kansas City Chiefs and a four-time Super Bowl champion, spent two days engaging with students across Klein College of Media and Communication and the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM).
The visit—co-organized by Klein’s new Sport Media major and STHM’s Sport Management program—offered students an extraordinary behind-the-scenes look at one of the NFL’s most respected front office leaders. The collaboration was supported by a Faculty Senate Lectures & Forums Grant, which helped make the cross-college experience possible.
Terry’s schedule was intentionally designed to immerse him in multiple student learning environments. Over the course of his visit, he:
Spoke in two scheduled class sessions attended by students from several majors.
Attended Temple Football practice and shared insights on leadership, preparation and team culture.
Took part in a Temple Men’s Basketball game, where the coaching staff welcomed him.
Visited the OwlSports Update newsroom, watching a live production before heading to Assistant Professor Matt Fine’s class for an impromptu conversation with student journalists.
Media studies and production major Saige Leone followed the visit throughout the day, capturing photography.
The visit was co-led by Associate Professor of Instruction Lauren Bullock (KLN), director of the sports media program, and Associate Professor Elizabeth Taylor (STHM), whose partnership ensured the event could reach as many students as possible.
“This was truly a collaborative effort,” Bullock said. “Our goal was to create meaningful, practical touchpoints between an industry leader and our students. Professor Taylor opened doors, our programs came together seamlessly and our students showed up ready to learn.”
The cross-college model was so successful that it earned grant support from the Faculty Senate, underscoring the value of creating shared learning experiences between Klein and STHM.
Despite his demanding role with one of the NFL’s premier franchises, Terry made time to connect with students on a personal level.
“For someone with his résumé, he was incredibly generous with his time,” Bullock said. “He answered thoughtful questions, shared stories from over 20 years in the league, offered straightforward career advice and genuinely enjoyed being back on campus at Temple.”
Terry’s visit marks one of the first major engagements for Klein’s new Sport Media major. The experience signaled the program’s commitment to bringing industry leadership directly to students.
“We wanted to make sure our students had unmatched access to someone shaping decisions at the highest level of professional sports,” Bullock said.
Klein College and STHM intend to continue building innovative, shared experiences like this—ones that bridge sport, media, management and storytelling for the next generation of professionals.
