Emily Milliron, KLN ’17, started at Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication thinking she would become a sports reporter. Yet now she found her path to becoming the executive producer for the business news podcast Morning Brew Daily, and Milliron's role gave her the opportunity to attend the 2026 Davos World Economic Forum.
The Lansdale native decided to study at Klein College due to her love for Philadelphia sports. During her time at Klein College, she was an anchor for OwlSports Update. According to Associate Professor Matthew Fine, Milliron was an essential part of the show.
“One of the reasons OwlSports Update is as strong as it is is because of such great people who have paid it forward,” Fine said.” They’ve done such a great job of setting us up for success for the next generations. Emily is definitely one of those people who did that for us.”
Milliron says that her time at Klein taught her to be versatile in her career. She mentions that her college experience prepared her for any role.
“You really had to know how to do everything,” she said. “I learned how important it is to be able to write, to be able to shoot, to be able to edit.”
After graduation, Milliron landed a position as a local news reporter in Maine. She decided to pursue a different role after six months.
“I realize that might not be my thing,” Milliron added, “which was kind of crazy because I’d always wanted to be somebody who was on air.”
She went on to work at a CBS Sports HQ until 2022, at which point she was given the opportunity to work at a business newsletter company in New York City—Morning Brew. Milliron had always expressed an interest in the city, so she accepted. She joined the team as a producer and editor for their new multimedia channels. Eventually, Milliron was tapped to start the podcast Morning Brew Daily, which has now been around for three years.
“It was very interesting to be in the podcast space and watch it grow,” Milliron said. She is now the executive producer for the show.
A sponsorship from a venture capital firm led Morning Brew to the Davos World Economic Forum, a convention in Davos, Switzerland, where world and business leaders come together to discuss global issues.
“It’s such a pool of people who can connect you to other people and help you grow,” said Milliron.
At the forum, Milliron and her team recorded episodes of their show, conducted interviews with business founders and created content.
“A lot of people recognized us while we were there. It was really cool to be able to interact with them,” said Milliron. “We created so much content while we were out there. It was a whirlwind, but it was awesome.”
Milliron expressed that when she was in college, she never considered anything besides sports reporting, but keeping an open mind after graduation led her to new opportunities.
“Everything that we do is so different and new compared to what I thought I was going to be doing,” she said. “When I was there, I was like ‘I’m going to be a sports reporter, and I’m going to be on an NFL sideline.’ That obviously did not happen, and that’s fine.”
Milliron suggests that everyone be open to any type of opportunity they receive. She mentions that the way media is consumed and created is constantly evolving.
“Be open to anything because we don’t know what it’s going to look like,” she said.
Milliron’s flexibility with her career choices led her to places beyond her imagination. As a professional, she is creative and willing to adapt, which are characteristics that have proved to bring success.
“One thing that I love about Emily is that she forges her own path. She decides what she wants to do and what she thinks is valuable and then goes for it,” said Fine. “She likes to think outside the box because she doesn’t like to be boxed in.”
