Temple University Television (TUTV), the official digital cable station for the university, has established a new agreement with PHL17 that brings TUTV student-produced programming to PHL17+, the station’s new Connected TV (CTV) streaming app.
Six TUTV programs—Queer Temple, Shedding Light, Temple Pilots, Temple Talk, TUgether and We Need to Talk—are now streaming weekly on the platform, expanding the reach of Temple student journalism and storytelling across the Philadelphia region.
PHL17+ features live programming from PHL17 and Nexstar, a growing catalog of news and entertainment content, exclusive digital programming and now, the work of Temple students.
“All of us at PHL17 are excited to work with Temple University and TUTV to bring the Klein College of Media and Communications students’ programming to our viewers through PHL17+, the newest CTV (Connected TV) app in the Philadelphia region,” said Lloyd Bucher, vice president and general manager at PHL17. “TUTV programming will join the ranks of PHL17 Morning News, the fastest-growing morning news in Philadelphia, Positively Philly, the area’s newest Lifestyle Show and a host of other native news and entertainment programming geared to a mass audience. We couldn’t be more excited about this and invite you to download PHL17+ on your Smart TV.”
This collaboration signals professional trust between TUTV and local news distributors. For PHL17 and Nexstar to include student-produced programming on a regional streaming platform speaks volumes about the quality of Temple students’ work. TUTV shows are conceived, produced and delivered by students operating at professional standards under faculty and industry mentorship.
Projects like this demonstrate what experiential learning looks like when classroom instruction meets real-world opportunities. Klein College students are not simply learning about the industry but also shaping its future.
“For PHL17 to showcase student-produced programming on a streaming platform speaks volumes about the quality of our students’ work,” said Joe Schreiber, general manager at TUTV. “As media continues to evolve digitally, this collaboration demonstrates how industry and education can move forward together, grounded in professional trust and meaningful experiential learning.”
