JD Glass has released her debut single, “A Thousand Times,” through Bell Tower Music, Temple University’s student-run record label housed within the Lew Klein College of Media and Communication. The release highlights the collaborative, hands-on work of students across production, marketing and media.
Originally from Gaithersburg, Maryland, Glass draws strong inspiration from her hometown and the broader DMV music scene, known for its diversity and collaborative spirit. That influence shapes her approach to music, where individuality and authenticity are central to her artistry.
Glass creates dark, genre-blending music that weaves together elements of jazz, folk and experimental sound. Her style is defined by jazz-inspired riffs, folk chord progressions and atmospheric tones that come together to form a moody, introspective and at times slightly unsettling sound.
Her work is driven by a commitment to authenticity and a laid-back, “you get what you see” presence. Through layered vocals and eerie piano textures, Glass creates music that feels both emotionally raw and immersive.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Tracy Chapman and Victoria Legrand of Beach House, as well as the haunting, emotionally driven style of Ethel Cain, Glass continually evolves her sound by pulling from her current influences rather than a fixed set of references.
At its core, Glass’ music is rooted in storytelling. She uses her work to process personal experiences and explore patterns in life, creating songs that are intentionally thought-provoking. Her sound design often contrasts beauty with unease, encouraging listeners to reflect more deeply on the emotions her music evokes.
Unpredictability and evolution remain central to her creative process. Rather than being confined to a single style or theme, Glass embraces experimentation and creative freedom, allowing her music to shift and grow over time.
