Ellen Santa Maria is a 3rd year doctoral student at the Klein College of Media and communication. Her research considers the relationship between identity politics, digital media, and power, and her dissertation focuses on feminist identity politics, feminist epistemology, and “cancel culture” on Instagram. Ellen approaches her research from an intersectional feminist perspective and utilizes critical textual analysis and discourse analysis to get at questions of who can speak, for who, and in what circumstances on feminist topics in digital spaces. Her previous research on memes, masculinity, and the media informs her current research program. Ellen has presented at national, regional, and local conferences, and has taught at Northampton Community College, Delaware County Community College, and Temple University.
